Introduction: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network announces the launch of the Pilot Grant Awards program. The goal of the pilot grant program is to support innovative research in pancreatic cancer. This research may be basic, translational, or clinical in nature. Particular consideration will be given to projects that are innovative, non-duplicative of other efforts and have the potential for national application. PanCAN will accept proposals that meet one or more of the following requirements:

• That employ INNOVATIVE research, diagnostic or treatment
approaches

• That develop PRELIMINARY DATA necessary to prepare and
submit a competitive research grant application to a major
federal funding agency.

• That are from BEGINNING INVESTIGATORS with
demonstrated potential for and commitment to pancreatic
cancer research.

• That are from ESTABLISHED INVESTIGATORS whose
expertise and experience in other (non-pancreas) areas
of research are relevant and will be applied to pancreatic
cancer.

Funds Available: PanCAN will make a number of pilot study awards determined by its available financial resources. Each pilot study award will be for a period of one year in an amount not to exceed $60,000 for that year. An amount not to exceed 10% (inclusive) of the total pilot study award shall be used for Sponsoring Institution’s indirect (overhead) costs. The total award including indirect costs cannot exceed the annual maximum allowed.

Eligibility: Investigators holding full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty appointments (or equivalent) at accredited United States academic, medical or research institutions are eligible to apply. Postdoctoral fellows and medical residents in their last year of training are eligible to apply, but must provide documented evidence of appointment to a full-time, tenure-track faculty position (or equivalent) before an award will be made.
